Serious game Therapeutic education

eSET — a serious game for therapeutic patient education

An online game-based journey helping patients learn how to live with their long-term treatment.

The challenge

The challenge

(placeholder CAFOC) Therapeutic patient education (TPE) remains under-utilised in outpatient settings: limited consultation time, paper tools with low engagement, fragmented post-diagnosis follow-up. A teaching-hospital partner sought a medically validated, engaging digital format to support autonomous learning between in-person TPE sessions.
The approach

The approach

(placeholder CAFOC) CAFOC co-designed eSET with a multidisciplinary medical team (doctors, TPE nurses, expert patients) around a narrative quest mechanic. Each chapter activates a key learning point (medication adherence, warning signs, self-care gestures) validated by the scientific committee. Pilot across 3 hospital units, 6 months of iteration before full rollout.
The deliverable

The deliverable

(placeholder CAFOC) A web-responsive serious game, deployed in 2023 to 800 patients across 5 partner hospital units. Engagement score: 78 % completion rate (vs. 35 % on legacy paper tools), measurable knowledge improvement post-use (+23-point average on the end-of-journey quiz). Compliant with HDS regulation and GDPR health-data requirements.
